Steady Register
Checkbook
A checkbook register that balances.
Write down what you spend and what comes in, keep a running balance, and reconcile against your statement the way you always have — on the phone in your pocket instead of a paper book. No account, no sign-in, and nothing connected to your bank.
What it does
A running balance you can trust
Every entry updates the balance immediately, and the register shows cleared and uncleared items apart from each other — so you always know the difference between what the bank has seen and what you have actually spent. Amounts are stored to the cent, and the database refuses anything that isn’t.
Reconcile against the statement
Enter the closing balance from your statement and tick off what the bank cleared. The reconcile screen shows your register balance on the statement date, your cleared balance, and the difference between the two as you work — so when you don’t match, you can see by how much instead of starting again.
More than one account
Keep checking, savings and a credit card side by side, each with its own register and its own balance. Charges and payments are labelled as what they are, so a credit card reads the way a credit card should rather than being a checking account with the signs flipped.
Yours to take with you
Export to CSV, print a register, and keep dated backups on the device so a mistake can be undone. Nothing is locked in, and nothing depends on this app still existing in ten years’ time.
Your register never leaves your device
There is no account to create, no sign-in, and no bank connection — not even an optional one. Your transactions, balances and account names are written to your own phone and nowhere else, and the app works with no internet at all.
The only exception is buying the unlock on Android, which is handled by Google Play and the payment processor, as any purchase is. That is spelled out in the privacy policy.
Buy it once, or not at all
The two app stores work differently, so the app is priced differently on each. Either way it is a single payment — there is no subscription on either platform.
Android — free
- Free to download and use
- One optional $4.99 unlock
- No subscription
iPhone — $4.99
- A paid app, bought once
- Nothing further to buy inside it
- No subscription
Common questions
Does it connect to my bank?
No. You enter transactions yourself, the same way you would in a paper register. There is no bank login, no aggregator and no server holding your balances — which also means there is nothing to hand over to anyone helping you with your books.
What does reconciling actually show me?
Your register balance on the statement date, your cleared balance, and the difference between them. Most checkbook apps tell you only whether you match. Seeing the gap is what lets you find the entry you missed.
Does it work without a signal?
Yes, completely. Nothing about keeping a register needs the internet, so nothing in the app asks for it.
What happens to my register if I change phones?
Export to CSV before you move, then import on the new phone. Because nothing is stored on a server, moving your register is something you do deliberately rather than something that happens to it.
Why is it free on Android but paid on iPhone?
Because the Android version can offer a free tier with a one-time unlock inside it, and the iPhone version is simply sold once with nothing to buy later. Same app, same single payment, arranged the way each store handles it best.
Balance it yourself.
The way you always did, without handing anyone your bank login.
